Home Sleep Study

Should You Get a Home Sleep Study In Greenville, TX?

If sleep is evading you, a home sleep study could help.

Millions of Americans have trouble sleeping or get poor-quality sleep due to sleep apnea, a sleep disorder that causes someone to stop breathing throughout the night. Since untreated sleep apnea has the ability to increase your risk for pulmonary hypertension, heart attack and stroke, the goal of our pulmonologists Dr. Mohan Philip is to detect these sleep problems early with a simple home sleep study.

What are the warning signs of sleep apnea?

One reason people come into our office is because their partners complain about their loud, disruptive snoring. This snoring isn’t just disruptive to your bed partner, it can also be disruptive to your sleep. Since many people with sleep apnea are also severely loud snorers it’s worth investigating if this is something you frequently deal with. Other warning signs of sleep apnea include,

  • Restless sleep
  • Waking up gasping for breath
  • Extreme fatigue and exhaustion (despite getting a full night’s sleep)
  • Morning headaches
  • Waking up with a sore throat
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Mood changes

If our doctors believe that you might have sleep apnea then they may recommend a simple at-home sleep study. This can be an easy, convenient and cost-effective way to diagnose sleep apnea in our patients. During this sleep test, a monitoring device will be able to measure everything from your oxygen levels to your respiration rate and any breathing troubles you may experience while asleep. Most patients only need to undergo one night of at-home testing.

In order to get an at-home sleep test you will need to turn to our doctors to find out if this is the right way to diagnose your sleep problems. At-home sleep studies are designed to monitor breathing patterns but will not actually be able to monitor your sleep itself. Therefore, this testing may be not used on those who may be dealing with other sleep disorders such as narcolepsy or insomnia.

If you are experiencing symptoms of sleep apnea, snoring or other conditions that affect your breathing while you sleep, call Greenville Pulmonary Associates in Greenville, TX, at (903) 454-9976 to schedule an appointment.
